These Terms & Conditions apply to all quotations, orders and window film installation works carried out by Filmshield-UK Limited unless otherwise agreed in writing.
1. Quotations & Pricing
- All quotations are valid for 30 days unless otherwise stated.
- All prices are exclusive of VAT unless specifically stated otherwise.
- Quotations are based on the measurements, quantities, specifications and access information available at the time of quoting.
- Any additional work, materials, access equipment or labour required outside the original quotation may be charged separately.
- Where measurements are supplied by the customer or a third party, Filmshield-UK Limited accepts no responsibility for inaccuracies. Additional materials, labour or visits resulting from incorrect measurements may be chargeable.
2. Orders & Acceptance
Acceptance of our quotation, provision of a purchase order, written instruction to proceed, or agreement of an installation date will be considered acceptance of these Terms & Conditions.
3. Payment Terms
- Payment terms will be as stated on the quotation or invoice.
- Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due upon completion of the works.
- Larger projects may require a deposit, staged payments or payment for materials prior to commencement.
- Filmshield-UK Limited reserves the right to postpone works where an agreed deposit or advance payment has not been received.
4. Installation Dates
Installation dates are provided in good faith but may be affected by weather, access restrictions, delayed materials, equipment availability, site conditions or other circumstances outside our reasonable control.
Where delays occur, we will arrange the next reasonably available installation date.
5. Site Access
The customer is responsible for ensuring:
- Safe and suitable access to all glazing being treated.
- Windows and surrounding areas are reasonably clear before our arrival.
- Any required site permissions have been obtained.
- Suitable parking/loading arrangements are available where reasonably required.
Additional visits, labour or equipment costs caused by restricted or unavailable access may be chargeable.
6. Access Equipment
Where scissor lifts, cherry pickers, towers or other access equipment are required, these costs will be detailed within the quotation where known.
Additional hire charges resulting from delays or circumstances outside Filmshield-UK Limited's reasonable control may be passed on to the customer.
7. Existing Glass & Glazing
Window film is applied to existing glazing. Filmshield-UK Limited cannot accept responsibility for pre-existing:
- Scratches, chips or cracks
- Glass defects
- Failed or deteriorated sealed units
- Damaged seals, frames or gaskets
- Contamination or imperfections within the glass
- Existing film, coating or adhesive damage
Significant defects identified prior to installation will be brought to the customer's attention where reasonably possible.
8. Glass Compatibility
Film will be specified and installed based upon the glazing information available to us.
The customer should provide any available information regarding the glass construction, including whether it is toughened, laminated, coated or incorporated within a sealed unit.
Where the glass specification cannot be confirmed, further investigation or glass compatibility checks may be recommended before installation.
9. Appearance & Inspection
Window film is a professionally applied retrofit product and should not be expected to have exactly the same appearance as factory-manufactured tinted or coated glass.
Minor visual imperfections may occasionally be visible when viewed at very close range.
The completed installation should be assessed under normal viewing and lighting conditions.
10. Drying & Curing
Immediately following installation, the film may temporarily appear:
- Hazy or cloudy
- Slightly distorted
- To contain moisture or small water pockets
This is a normal part of the curing process and generally disappears as the remaining installation moisture evaporates.
Drying time varies according to film type, temperature, weather, glass construction and installation conditions and can take several weeks.
11. Dust & Contamination
Every reasonable effort is made to provide a clean installation. Window film is normally installed on site rather than within a controlled clean-room environment.
Occasional very small particles or minor contamination may therefore be present beneath the film. Minor contamination that does not materially affect the normal appearance or performance of the installation will not normally constitute a defect.
12. Existing Film Removal
Removal of existing window film must be specifically included within our quotation.
Filmshield-UK Limited cannot guarantee the condition of glazing following removal of existing film or adhesive, particularly where scratches, staining, coating damage or other defects have previously been concealed.
13. Solar Control & One-Way Privacy Film
Performance varies according to the film selected, existing glazing and environmental conditions.
Reflective and one-way privacy films depend upon a difference in lighting levels between the two sides of the glass.
One-way privacy film is primarily a daytime privacy product and does not guarantee night-time privacy.
When the inside of the building becomes brighter than outside, particularly at night with internal lighting switched on, the privacy effect may reduce or reverse.
Customers requiring 24-hour privacy should discuss alternative film options with Filmshield-UK Limited.
14. Heat, Glare & UV Performance
Published performance figures are generally based on specified glazing configurations and controlled test conditions.
Actual performance can vary depending upon glass type, orientation, shading, weather conditions and building construction.
Solar control film is designed to reduce solar heat gain, glare and UV transmission; it cannot completely eliminate heat or glare.
15. Colour & Shade Variation
Minor variations in colour, shade or reflectivity can occur between different film batches, glazing types, elevations and lighting conditions.
Where new film is installed adjacent to existing film, an exact match cannot always be guaranteed due to age, weathering, discontinued products or manufacturing changes.
16. Printed, Frosted & Decorative Films
Where artwork, colours, logos, patterns or digitally printed graphics are approved by the customer prior to manufacture, that approval will be treated as authority to produce and install the material.
Colours viewed electronically or on printed proofs may vary from the finished installed product.
17. Cleaning & Maintenance
Newly installed window film should not be cleaned until sufficient curing time has passed.
Once cured:
- Use a soft cloth, sponge or rubber squeegee.
- Use mild soapy water or an appropriate non-abrasive glass cleaner.
- Do not use blades, scrapers, abrasive pads or harsh chemicals.
- Particular care should be taken around film edges.
Damage caused by incorrect cleaning, scratching, misuse or third-party interference is not covered by our workmanship warranty.
18. Manufacturer & Installation Warranties
Any manufacturer's warranty applicable to the film is subject to the manufacturer's own terms, conditions and exclusions.
Any concerns regarding workmanship should be reported to Filmshield-UK Limited as soon as reasonably possible after becoming apparent.
Warranty does not cover damage caused by misuse, accidental damage, vandalism, incorrect cleaning, building movement, glass failure, seal failure, water ingress or interference by other contractors or third parties.
19. External Window Film
External-grade window films are exposed directly to weather and environmental conditions and therefore have different expected service lives and warranties from internally installed films.
Where edge sealing is specified, damage, deterioration or removal of the edge seal caused by third parties may affect the applicable warranty.
20. Security & Safety Film
Security and safety window films are designed to improve the performance and retention characteristics of existing glazing.
Security film does not make glass unbreakable.
Performance depends upon several factors including:
- Glass type and thickness
- Film specification and thickness
- Framing system
- Installation method
- Film-to-frame attachment or edge-retention system where applicable
No security film installation should be interpreted as guaranteeing that glazing cannot be broken, penetrated or removed.
21. Furniture, Blinds & Obstructions
Unless specifically included within our quotation, Filmshield-UK Limited is not responsible for removing or reinstating furniture, blinds, signage, fixtures, specialist equipment or other obstructions preventing access to the glazing.
22. Cancellation & Postponement
Where an installation is cancelled or postponed at short notice after materials, labour or access equipment have been committed, Filmshield-UK Limited reserves the right to recover reasonable costs already incurred.
Bespoke, cut-to-size, specially ordered or digitally printed materials may be non-refundable once ordered or manufactured.
23. Completion & Defects
The customer or their representative should inspect the completed works where reasonably practicable.
Any concerns should be brought to our attention promptly so that Filmshield-UK Limited has a reasonable opportunity to inspect and, where appropriate, rectify the issue.
Customers should not arrange for another contractor to remove, repair or replace the film before giving Filmshield-UK Limited a reasonable opportunity to inspect the alleged defect.
24. Liability
Filmshield-UK Limited will carry out its services with reasonable care and skill.
Nothing within these Terms & Conditions excludes or restricts liability where doing so would be unlawful, and nothing contained within these Terms & Conditions affects a consumer's statutory rights.
25. Force Majeure
Filmshield-UK Limited will not be responsible for delays or failure to complete works caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, supplier disruption, transport disruption, equipment failure, site closure or other exceptional circumstances.
26. Acceptance of Terms
By instructing Filmshield-UK Limited to proceed, the customer confirms acceptance of the quotation, agreed specification and these Terms & Conditions.
